Meeting Rescheduled

30 June 2003

The ISPO has taken the unprecedented decision of rescheduling the symposium that was planned for Montreal, August 16-19, 2003. The “Call for Abstracts” reached the scientific community during the Spring, and a multitude of events worldwide profoundly impacted the plans of many investigators, effectively diminishing the quality and standards of the present program. Submission deadlines extended

23 June 2003

The deadlines for abstract submission and for travel grant applications have both been extended.

Montreal not affected by SARS

16 May 2003

The province of Quebec currently has no confirmed or probable cases of SARS. The city of Montreal, QC, where the meeting will be held, is 350 miles from Toronto, the only Canadian city where cases were reported. For more information on SARS in Canada, see the Health Canada SARS site. For more about Montréal, see our Montréal Highlights page.

Overview

At this international forum, clinical and basic investigators survey the breakthroughs in science and technology that affect emerging dimensions of cancer control.

Their scientific debate for evidence-based intervention strategies is empowered by the new understanding of molecular events affecting the complex biology and genetics of oncogenesis.

The scientific program aims to translate the cornerstones of this knowledge into paradigms for improving the outcomes in predictive and preventive oncology.

The meeting is intended to foster cooperation between universities, research institutes and other enterprises engaged in biomedical and translational research. This uniquely integrated curriculum delivers state-of-the-art perspectives of the following:

  • malignant transformations of occult, precursor, and early neoplastic lesions,
  • detection and management of intraepithelial and overt lesions, and
  • challenges and expectations for prevention trials and public health measures to reduce cancer burden.

The program is accredited for 36 CME credit hours for physicians or 42 contact hours for nurses.

The Setting

This meeting will be held at the Hilton Montréal Bonaventure, a penthouse hotel in the heart of Montréal. The hotel boasts a 2½ acre garden with waterfalls, a duck pond, outdoor dining, and a rooftop swimming pool.

Outside the hotel is a bilingual metropolis that is often compared to New York City for its skyscrapers, great architecture, and fine restaurants.
