The glutathion s-transferses (GSTs) are a family of enzymes that play an important role in the prevention of cancer by detoxifying numerous potentially carcinogenic compounds. AIM: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of GSTpi expression in the development and progression of the reflux, esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus and esohagus cancer mucosa , and to investigate the potential role of GSTpi as a biomarker in the clinical management of these diseases.METHODS: Some biopsies were taken from these patients and hemogenised in phosphat buffer (pH=6.5). cytosoles were distinct with ultracentrifuge at 100000 g, one hour.RESULTS: GSTpi protein expression levels were analyzed by using immunoblotting method. The results showed that GSTpi expression in reflux disease, esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus and esophagus cancer was higher than normal esophagus tissue of these patients.CONCLUTION: GSTpi is a biomarker in reflux disease, esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus and esophagus cancer
